What is a "deseret"?

Deseret is the Hebrew word for honeybee.

We named our school Deseret Academy because we liked the idea of all of us being busy and anxiously engaged in good causes. We can't think of too many better causes than to help the young people in our area get an education.

Deseret Academy was founded several years ago when our oldest son graduated from homeschool and could not get a high school diploma from our county homeschool program. Our friends, David and SharonTaylor, were home schooling their children as well, so she and I got together and started Deseret Academy. We did not anticipate having other students join us, but before we knew it, people were asking if they could enroll. We've been going strong ever since.

Our own children have long since graduated and gone on to college, but we continue our work with all of the other wonderful students who join us each year. It is a very rewarding work most of the time.
